What is IELTS?

IELTS, which stands for International English Language Testing System, is a globally renowned test. It is a standardized test that measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work in English speaking countries or environments where English is used as a language of communication. IELTS is also a prerequisite for immigration to countries like Australia and Canada. It is jointly developed and administrated by the British Council, IDP Education, and Cambridge English Language Assessment. Being the most popular English language test in the world for higher education and immigration, over 2.5 million IELTS tests were taken in more than 140 countries in 2015. IELTS is available in two modules: “Academic” for educational purposes, and “General Training” for work and immigration. Learn more about the IELTS test in our next posts.
